Your Unleashed Voice
Reclaiming the Voice and Presence that Holds the Room. Why Brilliant Leaders Lose It.
A Jumpstart Workshop with Mannette Antill
You are a leader. A changemaker. A woman of purpose and vision.
You bring vast experience. Well-honed skills. Deep wisdom. Hard-won authority.
And yet, again and again, your hold on the room is broken.
You are talked over. Interrupted. Cut off mid-thought, sometimes mid-sentence.
And then, suddenly, you hear your own thoughts, your own vision echoed in another voice.
And only now, applauded.
Or…
You are at the front of the room, an experienced speaker, prepared, and confident with a beautifully structured talk: killer opening, hooks, colorful stories, compelling close.
You have honed your presentation skills: a variety of pitch, pace, tone, volume, and melody, finely tuned gestures; you can master the space. All is choreographed. Rehearsed.
And then, slowly, painfully, you become aware.
The room isn’t leaning in. Attention drifts…down to laps, even…to phones.
You begin to turn inward, away from your message, your vision, your audience, and toward the quiet pull of evaluating, measuring, judging your own performance.
“What am I doing wrong? How can I fix it?”
You are a media professional. A podcaster. A host with a microphone and a devoted following.
You bring a practiced ear. A prepared rundown. A polished intro. A loyal audience.
And yet, again and again, the conversation slips away from you.
You read the intro from the page. You hurry to the next question while your guest is still offering something true. A silence opens and you rush to fill it. A story wanders, you cannot find your way back in, so you cut in, and it lands wrong.
The voice stays at one pace, one pitch, one energy, flattening thoughts and feeling and losing the natural rise and fall of genuine conversation. A held breath, a tight jaw, and by the end of a long recording it sounds pressed and thin. On camera, you catch your own image and, for a moment, you watch yourself. You stop listening.
And you turn inward, away from your guest and your listeners, toward the quiet pull of evaluating, measuring, judging your own performance as you become your focus.
Everyone says it sounds great.
But, then, in the edit, you hear it: a voice that is bright, smooth, professional, but it’s just not you.
Whatever the room, suddenly all you can think of is:
“What am I doing wrong? How can I fix it?”
What if there is another way?
Over the years, you may well have learned to shape your voice to be accepted, approved…safe. You may have learned when to soften your voice, hold it back, or make it sound the way others expected you to sound.
What if, in your mission to hold the room, you did not have to choreograph, drill, memorize, and manage a myriad of presentation skills?
What if you could access what you need from your voice: variety in pitch, pace, tone, volume, and melody; full resonance; an expression of comfort and confidence?
And from your body: free movement, purpose-filled gestures, engaged eye contact, an expressive visage, the ability to fill the space?
What if all of this could become available to you spontaneously, in the moment, as you embody new skills through somatic actor training of your voice and body?
In this live, interactive Jump-Start Workshop, we begin with the instrument itself: your body, your breath, your voice.
Through guided physical and vocal explorations drawn from the actor’s craft, you’ll begin experimenting with sensation, sound, resonance, effort, ease, energy, and expression.
You won’t be asked to produce the “right” sound.
You’ll be invited to become curious.
What can I feel that I can keep bringing?
What can I hear when I follow what I feel?
What becomes possible when I bring the fullness of my felt experience into my voice and presence?
Three hours can open a door. They cannot make a new way of speaking reliable when the pressure is on.
That takes practice: returning to what you feel, exploring what changes, and discovering how to find your way back when the stakes rise, challenges present themselves, and old habits return.
This Jump-Start Workshop is a beginning. At the end of our time together, I’ll share how you can continue the work with me, if you wish.
